The poultry industry produces millions of tons of feathers waste that can be transformed into valuable products through bioprocess. This research evaluates the enhanced keratinase and feather hydrolysate production by Bacillus spp. The metabolism of each microorganism is unique, so optimization tools are essential to determine the best fermentation parameters to obtain the best process performance. Feather was isolated from dump feathers site and the soil samples and was collected from poultry which was identified as Bacillus spp based on morphological characteristics. Screening method was carried to identity the presence of Bacillus spp. The mutant strain produced keratinase in different substrates of feathers, under submerged fermentation. The optimal conditions for keratinase production include initial pH of 5, inoculum size of 2 (v/v), and Temperature 34.3°C. The good ability of selected microorganisms to degrade feathers can be utilized for their potential biotechnological application in processing of feather waste from poultry industry.
